Helping make YOUR best days unforgettable.

A Heart of Humility

I approach all romantic documentation with a heart of humility. I recognize that allowing a stranger like me into raw life moments can be nerve-wracking and I respect your boundaries fully - it's the very least I can do. All I ask is that you come as you are with a willingness to step out of your comfort zone a little bit. It's true what they say, sometimes we gotta risk it for the biscuit.

Trustful Kinship

Photographing contemporary romance involves a relationship of reciprocity. Basically, I keep everything super casual to facilitate an environment where you feel free to do your thing and thereby trust me to capture it all. Only in that space of kinship am I best able to use my eye as a photographer and observer to capture meaningful interactions that feel natural and truly like you.

Honesty at Every Step

Honesty is one of my core values as a human and business owner. You deserve a working relationship where everything is upfront and honest every step of the way. Everything from packages to planning decisions, I show up for you like an open book and I hope you will too.

Coaching, not Posing

I'm sure you've seen photographers preaching that they won't pose you...Well, between you and me, that's a load of hooey. Communication is an essential component of creating beautiful photographs. However, instead of micromanaging each of your hair strands, I zero in on how you two interact together and mindfully coach you through actions that allow you the freedom of demonstrating your unique connection. That's where the magic happens. Side note: we will still be getting the classics - promise. ;)

Adaptability & Respect

Every photographer is different and has different priorities; however, unless I need to step in and manage some aspect of the day (say, family photos, for instance), the last thing I want is to be a large presence on your day. It is your day after all. This means that I don't bring big bags of equipment and huge light stands that double as tripping hazards. All of my gear fits in my backpack so I can remain respectful of your moments and simultaneously ready to adapt to whatever comes our way.

Light > Technical Perfection

I used to be obsessed with having the sharpest images with little to no grain, but things have changed since then. Today, I find that I'm most moved by imagery that reflects what your day felt like. That means I mostly photograph using the light available to me instead of blasting the space with unnatural flash photos. I love a good flash moment don't get me wrong, but I am much happier to create a photograph with some grain or motion blur that mirrors your memory of the moment than create a technically perfect photo at the expense of the feels.

I'm Your Guide

When you hire me, you're also getting a personal guide to all things weddings. I've been around the block a few hundred times (quite literally) at this point and could do this with my eyes closed. Thankfully, I don't because I'd probably trip up some stairs and be embarrassed for the rest of the day. But my point is that I'm here for you. I want to use all the knowledge and experience at my disposal to give you the best dang wedding experience imaginable, from start to finish. I'll be in your corner and I won't ask you two to do anything I wouldn't do myself - even if that means taking a dip in the lake!

The Whole Process, Step by Step

Below are the core components of what you can expect when hiring me to document you. My photographic approach isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that's ok. You deserve an experience that is everything you thought it would be and more because your impression of the final product is heavily dependent upon how you and your photographer work together.

The best days I've photographed are rarely the most expensive - they're the ones where the experience I provide aligns with your expectations and priorities, and I want you to come away from this feeling ecstatic about every detail.

The Word on the Street

"I'd been following Garrett's Instagram for years before I got engaged, so when my husband and I started planning our wedding I knew Garrett was our guy. He has a way of capturing the most genuine, emotional moments and I just can't get enough! People usually feel at least a little bit awkward in front of a camera but he does such a good job with making you feel comfortable and confident. It can be hard to find the balance between professional and friendly, but Garrett apparently got straight A's in balancing school too. He also got the gallery to us less than a month after the wedding, even though he was in the midst of grad school finals! The entire gallery was stunning. We got it just a few days ago and I've already looked at the 700+ the pictures a dozen times. I am endlessly impressed with Garrett not only as a photographer, but as a person too. I can't recommend him enough."
